My students are 6-8th graders who live in a socially disadvantaged community. Many students have scored Far Below Basic and Below Basic on the CST. Approximately 96% of the students in my school qualify for Title 1, therefore, get free lunch. Each classroom has limited resources available to students. Each class has only 4 tubs of literature books available to students. Most of my students are English Language learners lacking fluency benchmarks which impact their comprehension. The challenge my students face is understanding what they read due to the struggles they encounter while reading.
