Can you imagine what it must be like to be unable to communicate with the world around you? To not know how to read the social cues that we all take for granted? My students are on the fringe of the fringe...I teach the students with severe special needs. They have some of the most amazing challenges ahead of them that we could never dream of having to conquer. Because the way that they learn is not typical, the supplies that they need are not typical. Most kids come to school on the first day of school and go home with a supply list, my students go home with a list as well but it may not look like what all the other kids have. I need to be able to present information in a multitude of ways besides the traditional methods. I have 10 kids in my class, almost all of them are boys. These boys come from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds, mostly Hispanic and African American. My most of my students are economically challenged and struggle to provide basic needs.
