I teach 23 fourth graders in a rural community in Western North Carolina. Our K-5 elementary school has over 900 students with a high percentage receiving free and reduced lunch. Within our classroom,we have a passion for learning and helping others to learn. We often will encourage and cheer each other on to promote a friendly and open environment. We set high expectations for ourselves and support each other to go above and beyond and to strive for the very best. One of our classroom goals we have set is to become better readers. I feel that at this age, students are beginning to form their own opinions about reading, and I want them to have a good experience. Many adults say “I don’t like to read. I never liked to read when I was in elementary school, and I don’t like it now.” We must help students to find their niche with books that spark their interest. Through the use of audio books, students might just find their niche and discover a love for reading!
