My students are in need of safety gear like helmets and catchers equipment that protects their head and body when they are playing games. Catcher's routinely take foul balls to the body and head from pitches that travel in excess of 55 mph. When those pitches are thrown and fouled straight back and hit them in the head, poor equipment leads to bruises and concussions that otherwise would not be an issue. A concussion can put the student out of school and out of competition for extended parts of the season. The long term effects of multiple concussions on players could also be detrimental to their cognitive abilities in the classroom.
