My younger students in grades K-2 love movement activities as a way to learn in music class. Movement causes the brain to produce endorphins that increase a child's energy level and their ability to learn. In addition, movement and musical activities that include cross lateral movement are especially important for brain development in children. Movement activities also allow children to improve their balance and coordination. Donations to this project will allow my students to fully participate in movement lessons to enhance learning. Parachute activities encourage teamwork, enhance coordination and effectively teach students about musical form. Ribbon streamers allow students to move independently while demonstrating changes that occur in musical selections- ie, fast and slow, high and low, and melodies that move up and down. Stretchy bands encourage children to work together to demonstrate a steady beat. Finally, poly spot markers will encourage more flexible seating options in my classroom.
