I have chosen materials such as "picture exchange cards" to asst students in communicating their needs and wants. They will also help maintain classroom management, through creating schedules and providing visual routines for our little ones to follow. This will result in building confidence and independence.
I have also chosen materials to help students with anxiety and challenging behaviors. These textured and fidgit toys will provide sensory stimulation for students to self regulate when they are upset. For example they may select a mat to roll on or a toy to hold with different textures to help redirect their focus.
The district I work for is unable provide funding for the materials I need to help these students reach their full potential. The materials that are currently in my classroom are not developmental appropriate and some are unsafe such a small counting bears that students can put in their mouth and choke. I need toddler sized items that students can explore and learn from in a safe nonhazardous environment.
