I am one of 3 visual arts teachers and the sole drawing and painting teacher at a small alternative high school within the Seattle School District. My school, The Center School, is home to roughly 260 students grades 9 through 12. My classroom is quite small and as a result my class sizes tend to be small as well. This affords me the ability to work with my students 1 on 1 and to build relationships the way all teachers should be afforded the time and space to. I am very fortunate to work in an arts rich environment and work to enhance the scope and offerings of the visual arts program at The Center School. My classroom is all about building a sense of belonging, chill, and focused engagement with the arts. My students are all unique individuals whose lives and academic careers have led them to an small, alternative school setting. Students at the Center School thrive on a sense of pride and community.
