I teach three reading intervention classes in a middle school from a multicultural and high poverty area of the city. These students are struggling at home, but we have strong standards to aid them in rising above. They are eager to learn and improve their reading skills with a Growth Mindset. Our school and district provide our students a well rounded academic education which includes interventions for those needing additional learning supports. We believe in our children even though they do not come from the best backgrounds. Almost half are bilingual, with 50 languages spoken in the community. Literacy is a priority to helping them succeed in school.
