I teach kindergarten in IL. It is a small, rural town and 59% of students receive free or reduced lunches. My students are eager and enthusiastic to learn to read. Many students come into kindergarten with very few, if any reading experiences and it is truly amazing to watch the progress they make each year as they transform into life-long readers. Unfortunately, our school's resources are limited due to budget cuts and the school has been unable to provide spending money for the classrooms to use on items for literacy centers.
