We are springing into literacy by reading The Secret Garden for Read Across America. Students will read the book and explore the themes of this classic text, as well as have the opportunity to make their own secret gardens to keep at home after the project is over. Students will explore the healing quality of nature, and get to express themselves creatively by making fairy gardens. Fairy gardens, or enchanted gardens, are minuscule gardens which include plants, animals, and other accessories such as fountains, bridges, or swings. Please help my students capture the magic of The Secret Garden! “If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.” ― Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden
