I am a MS/HS Counselor and serve students in grades 6-12. In my role, I see children at their best and, unfortunately, their absolute worst. Throughout COVID, the amount of children I have seen for DHS referrals and suicidal tendencies has increased tremendously. Many days I have kids in my room for an extended amount of time. We have to discuss difficult topics and many tears can be shed. Having a cozy place for students to sit and relax can be a comfort in an extremely difficult time. I currently have the old nurse's couch in my room. The vinyl is peeling and the springs can be felt when sitting on it. A new area for my students to sit would be amazing. Additionally, being from a small school district I help with sick students from time to time. The ability to fold out my couch for a child to lie on until their parent arrives has been very beneficial in the past. My room is a room that approximately 300 students have access to. I love serving my students daily and would be thrilled to have these new items to make the space more student-friendly. I thank you for your time and consideration.
