Creating an immersive atmosphere will help my students become motivated as soon as they walk into the classroom. When we think of Spanish class, many things come to our minds. I think about vibrant colors and busy walls full of Spanish words. The decorations and posters will help foster this learning environment. The markers, scissors, and tissue paper will help our class be more hands-on and interactive. We will be able to do crafts and group projects that will help us step away from busy work and adopt a different type of learning style. All cultures introduce us to other art styles, fashion, and customs. My students want to not only learn a new language but learn about people around the world. I am a first-time teacher coming mid-year classroom and starting from scratch. My students deserve a lot more than what I can provide them at this time. I am slowly learning how these past two years have affected my students. Covid-19 has taken so much from them already. It has affected their mental health, having been forced to adapt repeatedly. The fidget toys, I hope, will help them ease those feeling so they can feel more comfortable being back in the classroom as well feeling heard and validated.
