The study of American history and politics in the present is not as straightforward as the simple memorization of facts. Just as people disagree today, people of our great nation's past have always disagreed. Even historians who write about the major events of our nation's past don't always agree on who should take credit for great accomplishments and who should take blame for great failures. When students are given access to primary and secondary texts that cover the same topic from different perspectives they move beyond memorizing simple facts and start to develop the complex skills of a historian. Our social studies department is focused on the development of a range of literacy and critical thinking skills. We currently don't have any classroom texts. These text sets will add deep enrichment to potentially any lesson in any unit whether through a classroom wide activity, remediation, enrichment, research on individual papers/projects, etc.
