Part of learning a language is being in contact with the culture, and being able to learn in the target language. A huge challenge when starting a new grade level in DLI is access to authentic language materials. In the previous two years with COVID, my students had less exposure to the language and had less support in the target language since they were learning remotely. Now that they are back in the classroom, we have just a few materials in the target language, as the budget for new teachers is limited, and gathering the wealth of materials in Spanish that my students deserve will require many years. I wish I have a wide variety of books for my students to be able to have a choice for reading, in addition to the books provided with the curriculum. This project will help my students to continue learning Spanish, their target language at school, with access to authentic reading materials. My students will continue developing their second language skills. Students will be able to read independently in the target language as they have access to books from our classroom library. Also I asked for an Alphabet Sounds Teaching tub to help my students to build their vocabulary skills with fun activities that will also support their reading comprehension. The books have been selected to match my students' current reading level and will last in my classroom to support future DLI learners. This project will help to start building a great classroom library for many generations to come.
