I have been teaching middle school students reading for the past 7 years. I have noticed that students are really struggling with reading, a high percentage of students are reading 2-3 years or more below grade level. Strategies and tools that have been successful in the past, seem to have less of an impact. My hope is that with some independent reading activities using audio books and additional small group instruction will build their reading skills. A horseshoe table will provide a perfect place for me to meet with students that are working at similar levels. We can work on specific skill deficits and help them achieve their individual reading goals.
