Our project "Launching Literacy" is an effort to give students enrichment activities that promote literacy and fuel their love for learning. Specifically, this project will focus on reading and writing. These materials will help communicate to students that the activities are important and to be taken seriously. It is hoped that by having their own notebook and pen that they will take ownership of their writing and have something to give them ongoing inspiration and motivation. Often having their own copy of a book or a writing notebook validates their efforts. Students will be able to participate in activities that reinforce their interests and allow them to advance important literacy skills. They will be able to share their thoughts and ideas with others and to learn from others' perspectives.
