Students need to see Earth's power in action. Yes, we could go outside and watch a river for a month to see the effects of water, BUT how convenient is it to have a stream table right in the classroom, where students can manipulate variables and speed up natural processes. Until I can afford a Magic School Bus for awesome field trips, this will have to do. Students learn better when they're getting their hands dirty. Models are essential to science and to the teenage brain, and what kid doesn't like to get their hands in the sand and water?
