Flexible seating and sensory tools provide students with the movement they need to remain focused in their learning. Currently I have a couple flexible seating options that my students take advantage of during independent work time. I would love to have more options in my classroom to ensure that more students can benefit from these tools. My students that need to move in order to focus, are most successful when they are completing a task while sitting on a wobble stool. These movement and sensory tools will be utilized for optimum student success in my classroom, and my students will greatly benefit from using them daily. In the corner of my classroom I have a small box with a few sensory toys, this is called the Calm Corner. My students are allowed to use the Calm Corner if they are experiencing anxiety, stress, or need a break. Since I created this safe place in the corner of my classroom, I have found that many of my students who were struggling to get through the day, are now able to self regulate in the Calm Corner. They spend a few minutes back there, and are able to return back to class feeling more calm and in control. I would love to have more sensory tools to create a richer experience in our Calm Corner. I also would love to have some tools on my desk that I could give to a student during a lesson, so they can have something to fidget with, but won't fall behind my instruction. Integrating flexible seating and sensory tools into my classroom will greatly impact each of my students and help them succeed through these unprecedented times.
