As I move forward in my first year of teaching Special Education, I am continuing to learn best practices for my students. Considering my students have a wide variety of disabilities, so do their abilities. As I teach ELA on a modified curriculum and ELA goals within their IEP, I have learned that there is a very wide variety. Some students are focusing on identifying letters, some letter sounds, some core/vocabulary words, and one student is reading simple sentences. These materials will allow ELA to be taught with more visuals and tactile objects. The Alphabet objects will allow students to use prior knowledge and make connections to real world things. The crayons and markers will allow students to complete worksheets and activities. Also, the Easel will allow me to teach and focus on using visual Essential Questions, Anchor Charts, Graphic Organizers, and much more!
