These supplies will help my students better respond to their changing emotions and feelings. As 5th graders, they are experiencing transformations and interacting with peers again after over a year outside of the classroom. I want to foster greater empathy and collaboration in my classroom, and I believe that giving students a space where they can create, play, and express themselves together will help to build a community. Many of my students have experienced loss and trauma outside of the classroom, and crave creative expression as an outlet. Since they do not have art as a class this year, I try to incorporate activities in the classroom that foster and support their creative spirit. Help me gift them each a sketchbook and colored pencils as a holiday gift. The additional supplies, such as Clorox wipes, paper towels, tissues, folders, notebooks, scissors, and pencils are the basic daily needs of an active classroom, particularly during COVID times. This project will also help to fund the supplies that my students use on a daily basis.
