Each Friday my sixth graders share their writing in our "Open Mic" experience. Having a purpose for writing has inspired my students to become more engaged writers! Open Mic has also encourage by students to make meaningful relationships as they look for specific details to compliment the reader on. Having a professional looking stage, a real microphone, a stand to set their Chromebook on, and mood lighting will "set the stage" for this unique and wonderful part of our classroom language arts program. Providing meaningful and creative activities for my students is my passion. While students could share their writing in other, traditional ways, Open Mic has sparked motivation and improved student writing and relationships in so many ways. Having a class set of the novel Space Case will help my students prepare for our school wide space theme next semester. This book will build background knowledge and enthusiasm for a subject they will learn about in every other class.
