This drum set will be used as part of a new class I am starting called "Rock Band". In this introductory class students will be learning how to play new instruments such as guitar, electric bass, keyboards and the drums together in groups. There will also be a vocal element of this class where students who are singers can practice and perform with the students playing instruments. Since we have such a diverse student body at our school, we are reaching out in a variety of ways with new classes to try and meet the interests of our students. Rock Band is one of the classes we are adding to our music options for students to participate in. There will be multiple uses for the drum set as well as the Rock Band class. I have had many students in my general music classes that have expressed an interest in learning how to play the drums over the years. Having a drum set that is readily available in my class would provide the opportunity for many students to learn what it's like to play the drums. This drum set will also be used in ensemble practice and performances such as Jazz band, Pep band and possibly even pit band performances for school musicals in the near future. Our music program really needs a drum set right now and it will be used on a regular basis by many students.
