The resources I have asked for will help students to have more opportunities for differentiated instruction specific to the area of English Language Arts. The students I teach are at a reading level significantly below grade level and several are English Language Learners in addition to having a disability. The standard high school curriculum is difficult for them to understand. The materials I have selected will help meet each student where they are and help them to improve in important areas such as RI.9-10.2 (determining the central idea of a text) and RI.9-10.6 (determining the author's point of view).
In addition, these materials will allow students flexible seating during times of independent reading and assignments. During COVID-19 students were in the comfort of their own homes and had many options for seating and doing their work. Creating a similar environment in the classroom would be a great benefit to my students. The items will also be neatly organized, which will also help them to feel more comfortable and welcome in my classroom.
