This will be for a calm down spot in my office for K-5th grade students who need a safe space to explore emotions or a quiet spot to calm down. Often our students come from homes with multiple families or children living in them and express feeling overwhelmed and sometimes needing a quiet space. I am requesting items which will be placed in my office where students are supervised. These resources will offer them many options to fidget or calm down in a healthy manner to prepare them for going back to class to learn. Giving them this safe space to come to will allow them to reset to return to the classroom to learn when they are overwhelmed or upset. The rugs and floor seats will give students calm seating. Being able to sit comfortably on the floor will provide a sitting area where students are comfortable and not overstimulated. Wooden blocks will provide students a low stimulation building activity to calm their mind. The tapestry will provide a more visually calming environment. The plant stand and storage cubes will allow for an organized environment where options are available but also put away nice. The clock and hourglass will provide me a way to keep boundaries on the session times and ensure students are returned to class on time. The lamps and sound machine will provide students with a more relaxing environment with both audio and visual relaxation. The laminating pouches and dots will be used for reward charts and break passes for students. Yoga cards, SPOT Books, breathing ball, spot poster, and wheel of emotion will be used for individual lessons, group lessons and classroom lessons. The fidgets will be used when students need them in the corner either with me or on their own to calm down.
