My fourth grade students are stuck in the middle of liking writing or absolutely dreading it. I am hoping that by reading about a science fiction of young kids in an alternate under ground world, it will help spark their ideas on creating their own narrative writing this coming quarter. They have been working so hard on their writing to where they are a little burnt out, however an intriguing book like City of Ember can help them get out of this funk and back into their excitement for writing. We will be using this not only to spark interest of of future writing, but to also reach across to reading subject, such as character development, story sequencing, theme, and more.
