Your generosity has provided our students with hands-on opportunities to learn that there are many healthy ways to manage big feelings, calm their bodies, and build resilience.\r\n\r\nWith the balloons, flour, and markers, students will create and decorate their own squishy stress balls. This activity gives students a fun, creative tool they can use when they are feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, worried, or simply need a moment to reset. Most importantly, students can take their stress balls home and share what they learned with their families.\r\n\r\nThe bottles will allow students to create calming sensory bottles that they can use as a visual and hands-on calming strategy. Students will practice slowing down, focusing their attention, and noticing how their bodies and minds respond as they watch the bottle settle.\r\n\r\nOur gardening supplies provide another meaningful way to talk about resilience. Students will plant a seed, care for it, water it, and watch it grow. As we watch our plants bloom, we will talk about how people grow through challenges too. Just like a flower needs time, care, and patience, we can use support, healthy coping strategies, and perseverance to help ourselves bloom.\r\n\r\nThese materials are more than craft supplies—they are tools for teaching lifelong coping skills. This dedicated space has provided a safe, calming environment where the students can explore their senses, regulate emotions, and engage in learning activities that support their overall development.\r\nFor many of our students, especially those with sensory processing challenges, behavior struggles and other special needs, the sensory room is a lifeline. It offers tools such as the weighted butterfly, reading tree, fidget tools, textured surfaces, yoga area, reflection station, inspirational décor and quiet zones that help them feel more comfortable, focused, and ready to learn.\r\nThe benefits you help provide are clear. Students who become overwhelmed can retreat to the sensory room to calm down before returning to class. This quiet, sensory-friendly space supports concentration during hard moments. The room is a resource for all our students, not just those having difficult moments. Even though the project won't officially take place until August 2026 your donation has already sparked interest in our new \"Hogwarts\" section of the library.\r\n\r\nYour donation allowed us to go from 2 books to 30 books for students to enjoy in different formats! The large print are a good choice for students with vision issues or Dyslexia, the paperbacks are good for those students who like to have books they can carry easily, the Spanish versions are wonderful for our English Language Learners and there are always those students who love the feel of a hardcover book!\r\n\r\nSince adding the books to the shelves in February, these books have been checked out by 52 students. They are loving seeing these articles and videos about current events. The articles and activities are engaging and interesting to my class. They also love to review the questions together and see if they got the answers correct. \r\n\r\nOne of our favorite parts to do are the Debate It topics. Writing opinion paragraphs is something we do often in 3rd grade. The students love the topics that are in the magazines and have great brainstorming discussions with each other.\r\n\r\nI have noticed that students are practicing using context clues to learn difficult words. The articles are a great resource to help with learning how to paraphrase non-fiction texts. Finally, students are able to practice using text evidence by going back into the articles to find the answers to questions.\r\n\r\nThank you to everyone!
