Boomwhackers, create a colorful and unique opportunity for students to make music as a class. Students will be able to play music as an ensemble while literally whacking their instruments on the floor to create their sound. With a large set of Boomwhackers, each student will have one or more Boomwhackers allowing for more variety in music for the students to create and perform. Students will be able to explore rhythm, melody, and performing as they learn songs and pieces together meeting the Nevada Academic Content Standard: MU:Pr4.4.2 Demonstrate understanding of the structure and the elements of music (such as rhythm, pitch, and form) in music selected for performance. The tongue drum will be an added instrument to the classroom ensemble. It will be used to add different textures to the music as well as an incentive for students. For example, students who are working hard will be able to play the tongue drum to perform with the class or lead the class in call and response activities. This will help to facilitate Nevada Academic Content Standard MU:Cr1.4.1 Improvise rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic ideas, and explain connection to specific purpose and context.
