The five keyboards requested for this project are to be used to teach basic piano reading to third, fourth, and fifth grade students. Over the years, students have often requested to learn the instrument but with only one acoustic piano in the classroom such a project would be unwieldy and challenging. Allowing students to work in groups to learn the basics of piano would expose them to a new level of musicality. Keyboard instruments require students to read both treble and bass staff notation simultaneously, which results in increased fluency. The technology of keyboards, as opposed to acoustic pianos, also appeals to young students and will excite them to take on more challenging concepts than they might on standard classroom instruments.
