I just opened a new painting program at a new high school. I have some extremely talented students who are eager to learn, but building a program from the ground up just on student fees alone is challenging, especially when I have 7 classes that range in size of 35-45. Massive budget cuts and a last-minute room change to teach art out of a portable this year have also made things much more difficult. I came to this school with the intention of building the best art/painting program I can. However, my 2nd year students have begged me to learn oil paints, and I just do not have the budget for the easels and materials to meet their wishes this year. These materials on my wishlist will give them the opportunity to learn more mediums and expand their skills, which they otherwise would not have access to.
