Students will use the bell jar and vacuum pump to explore the properties of different object in a vacuum. Can you hear your phone without air? What happens to a balloon in a vacuum? Does water boil in a vacuum? How do shaving cream and marshmallows react in a vacuum? There are endless inquires that students can investigate on how atmospheric pressure affects items in our everyday life. By observing how different materials behave without atmospheric pressure students can identify the affects of atmospheric pressure. Additionally students will investigate sound as a mechanical wave.

About my class
