Two student laptops will bolster the support that I am providing to my students in their small group intervention lessons. The loss of learning that has occurred since the start of the pandemic has been astonishing to teachers and families. As a special education teacher, my role has always been to set goals for my students and work as a team to provide supports to help them achieve their goals. This year a typical intervention group of 4-5 students has grown to 10-12 students due to an increased need for support in the areas of English language arts and math. Employing a technology center or rotation within my small group instruction would allow me to work closely with other students while their learning is being assessed and extended. A substantial component of teaching special education is data collection. With the advances of technology, many programs have become available that assist with consistent data acquisition. The Nevada Academic Content Standards, RI.4.10 and RL.4.10 address range of reading and level of text complexity. Teachers and families have become increasingly aware of the learning gap that has resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic. Reading is a skill that has been most notably impacted and this will affect students in all subjects across the curriculum. I would love to have a center where students can take reading tests and play games that both measure and support their reading. I believe this will help them be successful both in their general education classroom and my special education classroom.
