Academic conversations between teachers, students, and peers are an important part of education. Newcomers to our country and those whose primary language is not English are at a disadvantage when it comes to having those conversations in school environments. Much of what we learn daily comes from verbal interaction and for English learners this becomes extremely difficult. Technology becomes a required component for English learners. Through the applications on iPad minis and iPod touch, English learners can actively participate in real interactions and provide input and output effectively. Development of language, social skills and conceptual understandings go beyond the classroom.
