Help give my students brand new books! After a year in the pandemic and reading online, 'The Giver' book will give them a sense of community as they take turns reading out loud and working in groups and collaborating on the themes of growing older and rites of passage. My students have never read from a brand new book and having a class set will bring a new experience to them. The discussions that come from reading this book go beyond their own experiences at home or in their neighborhood. In the end, they begin to see that what they have is enough.
