The project that I would like funded is Scholastic News magazine for each of my students. I'm teaching first grade which is a fundamental year for learning high frequency words and to begin understanding concepts of reading comprehension. Scholastic News helps with both. The pandemic has left many students with deficits in reading so I am thinking of creative ideas to spark learning. Scholastic News provides students with high interest stories and articles which encourages them to become better readers. The fact that the student can have something to read and keep is a big deal. Not all of my student families can afford reading materials for their child to use at home. This will be a valuable resource since it includes a magazine that they can individually read and access to online reading materials to use on a device.
