Because of you, my elementary Multilingual Learners are using these new reading resources daily during small-group instruction to practice phonics, decoding, and comprehension in a way that feels accessible and encouraging. One moment that stood out was watching a student carefully sound out an unfamiliar word and then proudly reread the sentence to check for meaning — a big step in building true reading confidence.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were excited and curious. Many of my MLL students feel nervous about reading, but these resources immediately felt approachable. They eagerly explored the books, used the visuals for support, and confidently said, \"I can read this!\" That sense of excitement and belief in themselves is something we are continuing to build every day.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are focused on helping students read longer texts with greater independence and discuss what they are reading using sentence starters and academic vocabulary. Your generosity has given my students the tools — and the confidence — they need to grow as readers and English learners. My students are truly becoming readers and writers! The materials we received helped to expand my small group and independent learning activities in a positive way. \r\n The students are so excited to work with the manipulatives during our small group lessons. The materials provide a hands-on approach that targets many different learning styles in the classroom. I love the fact that the phonics kits are color coded, providing a clear visual for students to know which sets are theirs. It also makes it very easy for clean-up time! My students' skills are really beginning to shine when mapping out the sounds in words and then using the dry erase markers and word mapping boards to correctly spell out the words. \r\n The primary writing journals have been a huge hit during independent writing time. The drawing box at the top provides the visual and a clear boundary for students to draw their pictures. The section at the bottom with the dotted lines helps students when writing their words and sentences. It is great to have developmentally appropriate paper for the students to use in the classroom. I love that it houses all their work in one space, allowing me to show their progression over time during parent/teacher conferences. \r\n I am so grateful to have received all the materials! However, the kids were even more excited than I was. The lined whiteboards help students format their letters properly. When I give them identifying directions, they can easily align their letters using the red, blue, and dotted lines. The extra markers and erasers are extremely valuable. We are still working on remembering to keep the marker caps on in our classroom.\r\n\r\nUsually, when my students read books from the bookshelves, they create stories based on the pictures. This time, they ran over to me to show that they could read the entire sentence. They were smiling from ear to ear. The students also enjoy meeting up to read the books together.\r\n\r\nNow that we can \"read like adults,\" we are going to combine reading and writing more intentionally. We are moving into reading responses and research-based reading. I want students to take information from the text and express their thoughts and feelings about the subjects they are learning.","fullyFundedDate":1760521617908,"projectUrl":"project/access-with-confidence/9826657/","projectTitle":"Access with Confidence","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jackson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7656672_orig.jpg?crop=448,448,x0,y19&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760398290191","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7656672"},{"teacherId":10314762,"projectId":9835334,"letterContent":"The literacy donation to our classroom was so generous and thoughtful. I do not take for granted the care you all have exhibited towards our learners through this enormous act of kindness. The idea to even add options to the list like flexible seating and writing materials was greatly appreciated! I was also able to choose a range of literacy materials since reading levels in my room range from k-4. The kids are able to rotate the circular seats by table every day, and there are now actual chairs in the calming corner as opposed to just the rugs. Your contribution has transformed our classroom into a more focused, engaging, and comfortable space where students can thrive in their language learning journey.\r\nTechnology plays a crucial role in modern education, and with your support, our students are now able to immerse themselves in language learning like never before. The headphones allow them to engage with interactive listening activities, practice pronunciation, and follow along with language programs without distractions. These tools are particularly valuable for multilingual learners who benefit from clear, individualized audio experiences. The addition of comfort cushions has also improved their ability to stay engaged and focused, making learning more enjoyable and productive.\r\nThe excitement among our students has been amazing! They love how the headphones provide crisp, clear sound, helping them better understand accents and pronunciation. Meanwhile, the comfort cushions have turned our classroom into a more inviting space where students feel relaxed and ready to learn.\r\nOne student, who previously struggled to focus due to classroom noise, now confidently participates in listening activities thanks to the clarity of the new headphones. Another student, who found it difficult to sit for long periods, has been able to concentrate much better with the added comfort of the cushions.
