This iPad will help my students to access different modalities of learning and skill-building during their weekly, mandated speech-language therapy sessions at school. Some of the skills my students work toward improving are their articulation of speech sounds, fluency of speech, social communication skills, and a variety of expressive and receptive language skills such as listening, reading, writing, semantics, answering questions, and oral expression to name a few. My students are visual learners who are motivated by hands-on therapy activities, and an iPad provides the perfect opportunity for this. There is an array of professional learning applications available in the Apple store that target the skills mentioned above. The iPad will also be used to show students educational videos and other visual representations of grade-level texts, and may also serve as tactile and visual aids, first/then charts, and an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device for students who may have more limited verbal output.
