This is my first year in the classroom, so I am still getting to know all my students. However, after meeting them at the start of the year and seeing how behind ALL of them are in reading, I have made it my mission to instill a renewed love and appreciation for reading in my students. The best way to get them reading more is to have contemporary, relatable books in the classroom that will engage their imaginations and critical thinking skills. Since my school requires all students to participate in A.R. (accelerated reader) testing, my students will ONLY read A.R. level books. As a Title I school, keeping access to A.R. leveled books are difficult (especially since my classroom library is completely funded by ME), so all of the books selected for this project in the shopping cart below are appropriately A.R. leveled for my students, thus helping them gain the reading experience they need to increase reading comprehension and engage with books they will love and meeting my project goal of increasing their reading scores and comprehension. Likewise, a small book return bin will help me establish proper COVID quarantine methods for the books in my classroom library, allowing me to keep my students safe and reading!
