A makerspace is an environment where students can tinker, create, and explore. Young learners need student-centered and maker learning experiences that allow them to freely create, experiment, and collaborate so that classrooms are student-driven, culturally responsive, and prepare them with 21st-century skills to engage in their communities. The goal of this project is to provide makerspace equipment for my students to use for equity-centered design thinking and project-based learning tasks that will support creative thinking and mental well-being. Students will use the materials for STEAM makerspace activities, engage with readings about building, and invent creative spaces of their own. When students have autonomy over their work and can create freely this supports mental health as anxiety is relieved when projects are student based rather than teacher based.
