After the tolling year students have had, school counselors are going to be stepping into overdrive this Fall as we combat the trauma students faced by being stuck learning at home for over a year. At my elementary school, it is not uncommon that students face trauma in their home lives. The trauma has increased with the extra layer of a pandemic, as students were not able to escape home to come to school. It is my hope to create a wellness room that will serve as a cool-down area for students to come relax, create art, and participate in both individual and group counseling. We are incredibly excited at the prospect of providing our deserving students a peaceful place to express themselves! There is one spare room left on campus that the principal is gifting me to start running groups. Help me turn it from a cold, dark, dungeon to a beautiful escape for my students!
