When a fellow teacher asked a student what my classroom felt like to him, he responded that it felt "like one of those coffee shops you teachers go to" because of its odd shape and welcoming environment. I'd like to continue to build upon that statement and incorporate flexible seating into creating the perfect cozy space for my students. Students learn best in a warm, welcoming environment, and a coffee shop is a perfect inspiration! By using bistro tables, bean bag chairs, and barstools at a countertop, students will be able to choose what seat will work best for them that day and will be able to partner with a classmate or two easily for group discussions. Every adult knows the calm feeling of a hot beverage in hand while working in a cafe, and I'd love to create that same cozy feeling for my students.
