We will use the primary writing journals to practice the art of cursive writing. Imbedded in this practice are elements of writing with proper capitalization, punctuation, and correct sentence formation. The writing will be related to science standards. The composition logs will be used for notetaking, rough-drafting, and brainstorming activities. These writing activities will create opportunity to grow as competent writers across genres. The math graphing notebooks will provide space to keep accurate solving of mathematical concepts and "draw" math. There is a strong argument that there is a direct correlation between student retention of knowledge when they have actually written or drawn their thinking.
