My students are all from diverse backgrounds and need to read stories that portrays them in a positive light. These stories will affirm the spirit of perseverance and hard work. The positive affirmation of never giving up that I instill in my students will be read in books with characters with similar background and challenges. My students need to see that there is a world out there for them despite what they may see on television or on social media. They will encounter strong characters that they can identify with.
