The books that I am requesting will serve as the backbone for our anti-racist curriculum. This history book is written specifically for young adults to help them understand the devastating toll of racist ideas, but it also proves how social movements of common citizens can change the world. Through analyzing this text, my students will build upon their literary and critical thinking skills, while also empowering them to make the changes they wish to see in this world. “There will come a time when we will love humanity, when we will gain the courage to fight for an equitable society for our beloved humanity, knowing, intelligently, that when we fight for humanity, we are fighting for ourselves.” My students have shown a passion for changing the world to be more just and fair. The ideas of antiracism, humanity, and equity shine through this history book. With this book my students will obtain the knowledge to fight for an equitable society, for humanity, and for themselves.
