These materials will make a huge difference in my students' learning as they have been working really hard on identifying sight words and being able to sound out simple CVC words. To keep them engaged during remote learning, we play jeopardy on Fridays that ask questions specific to what they have learned throughout the week. Students sign on with eager excitement to start because they know they earn prizes for showing all that they know. They have been cheering each other one when they know it is a difficult question to answer really building that sense of community even when we are remote. One of the best feelings is when my kinder/1st grade students trade in 4 of their prizes for one book because they want to read to family and friends. The books are written/created by me at their specific reading level. They order on Mondays in hopes of earning them on Friday and it really brings excitement to the fact that they spend their "off screen" time to read their books to one another in our google classroom. I have spend many nights writing the books but these materials would cover the costs it takes for me to make these books for my students. It would also allow for my students to have a big reading celebration when we are back in the building. It has been amazing to see the transformation in these young students. They started the school year saying "I can't read" and throwing tantrums when asked to sound out words. Now they say "Ms. Sabres when can I earn another book. My brother wants a shark book so I can read to him."
