We will use this storage bench to store the books of our classroom library. The soft cushion on the bench will also make for an inviting seat for students to lounge upon. My students love to read, learn, and socialize with their classmates. In third grade, building reading comprehension skills will help them meet the learning goals of the grade level. One of the best ways for students to build their reading comprehension skills is to listen to reading and to listen to think-alouds about what is being read. Therefore, I will have students read to a friend during reading workshop time. This way they can socialize while they practice reading aloud and listening to reading to build their reading comprehension skills. I can picture the students using the seat to read quietly to self, and I can picture the students playing teacher and students with the reader sitting on the bench reading to some friends on the carpet during reading workshop time. Once a bench can be provided to the students, I can picture them all anticipate when their reading groups will be scheduled for listening to reading or reading to a friend/s, while some will work diligently so they can use the bench to read to self after finishing their work early. Please, help us acquire this bench! Thanks in advance!
