Crafting 101 is part of an enrichment program which was recently implemented because it improved overall attendance in our sister school, and will build a stronger sense of community. Crafting 101 gives students the opportunity to experiment with a variety of crafts, learn new techniques and strategies, teach each other, share what they make with the class and encourage each other to further develop their crafting skills. Students collaborate across friend groups and grade levels to create a collaborative inspiration board which is an excellent exercise in creative brainstorming. They also plan projects and practice developing actionable project pipelines. In this unit of Crafting 101, students will learn about crafters who have created small businesses and market and sell their crafts. With the lino print technique, students design and handmake a unique stamp. Thus, they create a repeatable design that can be printed over and over again on many different surfaces like paper, clothing, labels, etc. Through this craft, they learn how some crafters scale their design ideas to make enough product to run a small business.
