In economics students are expected to learn and apply various economic models and theories throughout the semester. One of my goals is to have them test and apply those economic theories on simulation games such as cities skylines. Experiential learning through simulations will open new avenues for students in urban planning, development, and economic forecasting and policy studies. Much of our class focuses on resource and raw material acquisition, individual and business economic choices, government policies, and personal finance. Teaching through simulations will provide a more hands on learning experience in areas seemingly distant and foreign for many of my students. Why the Aurora R9? Cities Skylines is a very powerful simulation with a wide array of expansion packs to add a more realistic experience for the user. The program requires a computer that can handle the demand of the program without freezing or suddenly quitting. The graphics and processor will ensure that the simulation runs smoothly no matter how many demands are placed upon it and no matter how long we are in are economic simulation portion of our classes.
