Students spend all of their day in a school lit with harsh fluorescent lights. These lights can cause headaches and have been shown to have negative effects on students’ behavior, especially those diagnosed with special needs. Some students who are especially sensitive to constant stimuli can be bothered by the harsh brightness these lights provide. Fidgets will also help student deal with their sensory needs due to constant stimuli in a busy Pre-K classroom. These light filters and fidgets will allow me to further customize my classroom to meet the individual needs for each of the learners in my classroom by toning down the harsh lighting and giving students an outlet for their sensory needs; these help soften the environment and make the classroom more inviting and comfortable. I hope to give my students an opportunity to learn and succeed to their fullest potential, in a space that feels comfortable and safe. A welcoming classroom environment can help make a huge difference to even the most reluctant learner.
