As I prepare to reopen the school doors to our students during this pandemic, I want nothing more than to have the most inviting, socially distanced counseling environment for all of my students. I have chosen items to place in my school counseling office that will provide much-needed relaxation, a sense of calm and safety for many students that have had months of uncertainty, anxiety, and perhaps isolation. Fluorescent light-diffusing panels will automatically provide a warm light as they winter my office space. Comfortable seating that is easy to clean will make them feel at home and ready to allow me to start applying my counseling expertise to alleviate the months of stress they have experienced during this pandemic. Colorful bins will allow me to rid my office of unnecessary clutter in my office allowing for a healthier environment. Finally, A white noise machine with soft light will provide a calming sound to teach mindfulness, meditation, and relaxation to many of my students that may have been overstimulated. Now more than ever, providing my students with a calm school counseling office is necessary and crucial to restoring the social and emotional health of my students. A pandemic causes trauma and one day at a time, teaching calming strategies with a newly improved calm counseling office is just what my incoming students will need. Your support is genuinely and graciously appreciated!
