New reading material will continue to enhance the print-rich environment that I strive to create. This project will allow my students to choose from a variety of books that will afford them the opportunity to read independently at their own instructional level. In addition, they will be able to choose books that interest them, which increases student engagement. My students have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will help to enhance their experiences. This Guided Reading Collection will be used for guided reading instruction, small group instruction, and to enhance overall reading development. The materials will help students with their continual development in reading fluency, comprehension, writing, and vocabulary. The leveled readers will provide students with the right level of support and rigor. Becoming a proficient reader means having access to effective teaching and materials that support instruction in literacy.
